Since ,I like most of the rest of the writers on Helium, am not Automotive engineers and don't have shops, $100,000 computers, dynamometers and pressure testing equipment, we have to rely on manufacturers printed information and articles published in automotive magazines for our information. I can tell you that I like the looks and it drives good and has a nice stereo but the technical information I have to get from published information and so do 99% of the rest of the writers on Helium Yes I got a lot of this information from mbusa website because I don't know anyplace else to get it.
The 2010 Mercedes Benz GL is actually a GL-350 rather than a GL-320 but the drive train is the same. The GL is the largest of the 2010 Mercedes SUVs/Crossover type vehicles. The GL is every bit as big as a Tahoe or Yukon and nearly as big as a Suburban. There are 2 V-8 models but this article will be about the GL-350 BlueTec turbo diesel. Mercedes introduced the diesel in the automobile in 1936. BlueTec Diesel actually gets better mileage and is less expensive than the V-8s and can be sold in all 50 states. There are so many good diesels available overseas. I read just the other day that the little Smart Fortwo is available over seas with a little diesel that gets 83 miles to the gallon. I would buy one today if they could get me one
The 2010 Mercedes GL-350 BlueTec uses the 3.0 liter turbocharged direct injection V-6 engine. I believe this is the same basic engine that it used in the Volkswagen Touareg and the Audi Q-7 Diesel models. It puts out 230 horsepower and has gabs of torque. The 3.0 liter turbo-diesel uses Mercedes BlueTec suite of control devices including particulate filters and two catalytic converters. It also injects liquid urea into the exhaust streams using chemistry to cut oxides of Nitrogen emissions. The GL Diesel gets respectable fuel mileage for a vehicle that is 18 feet long and weighs 5300 pounds. It is EPA rated at 17/23. As the heaviest of Mercedes SUVs the GL-350 BlueTec won't snap your neck on take off but does 0-60 in about 9 seconds but it makes up for it on the brute strength and capacity side. The GL offers three row
