Is life after death possible?

by Roman Del Bosque

Created on: March 19, 2010

As with other matters spiritual, the best we can do is speculate on matters such as "Is life after death possible?"  We cannot get past the point of speculation when we discuss such things because when we do, we step into a virtual unknown, a dimension that no living person has ever experienced, much less returned from to tell us what is found there.

However, despite the obvious limitations, speculating on subjects surrounded in mystery may shed light on the subject of life after death and increase our awareness and knowledge about these mysteries.  We should realize, however, that each of us in our own time will eventually discover if indeed there is life after death.  Our individual enlightenment will come at the moment of death, and because no person can escape death, we are guaranteed an answer eventually.

Having said this I now move to speculate on the matter of life after death.  What I write is conjecture but perhaps within such conjecture lies the truth.  At the end our lives we will probably learn, finally, what was conjecture and what was not.  Meanwhile, we should have fun and enjoy speculating on these subjects, not only for personal understanding, but for knowledge as well, for it is possible that within the thin veil of conjecture and speculation lies the truth.  We must wait to find out, however.

Now, it is said that God is Spirit.  Spirit, we know, is invisible, it cannot be seen, touched, heard, or smelled.  The creator of the universe is therefore invisible.  This invisible force is what created all things.  Curiously, what is invisible is in life is often more powerful than what is visible.  Take death for example.  Death is more powerful than life.

How so?  Human life in the greater scheme of things - meaning in infinity, eternity-lasts but a brief moment.   Even if a person lives to be a hundred years in our world, it is no comparison to living eternally.  So life, as it turns out, is but a brief flash in time, an insignificant event as it relates to infinity.

So what happens when we die?  Does the soul cease to exist during eternity?  Does the soul return to live again on Earth in a different body?  What we call reincarnation.  Or, does the soul return to its original source, God?

If we believe that when we die the soul dies too, then we must conclude that our lives on Earth were insignificant experiences that mattered nothing to God.  It
