Jumping up high is very important in sports like basketball and volleyball. You don't have to be super tall like Yao Ming to jump up high. It is all in the explosive power you can generate from mainly your leg muscles. There is a bit of upper body strength that is needed as well to get even higher.
There are a few different types of jumping exercises that you perform to get yourself jumping higher. They are listed below.
Squats - Do this by standing up straight. Slowly bend your knees and make sure that you keep you back up straight. Slowly get down as low as possible and get back up. Repeat this 10 times and do 3 sets.
Squat and jump up - Do this by standing up straight. Slowly bend at your knees and jump up as high as you can. Once you land you must jump up again straight away. Repeat this 10 times and do 3 sets.
Raising your toes - Stand up tall and straight. Raise slowly up on to your toes and slowly go back down. Repeat this 20 times and do 3 sets.
Stomach Crunches - Do 5 minutes of sit ups which should get you to 100 sit ups if you spend 3 seconds per sit up. Make sure your back is straight and you don't strain your neck or your back.
Skipping with a skipping Rope - Do this for 5 minutes and do 4 sets. Make sure you try to jump as high as possible.
The five exercises listed above is all you should need to jump higher and increase your vertical leap. You should start to see huge improvements in your vertical jump after a few weeks. You must also watch your diet as well when you are training. If you weigh too much, it will be a lot harder to jump up high. Eat healthy and stay fit with these jumping exercises. The key to jumping high is to train your muscles so that they are so used to jumping that it comes naturally. Make sure you push yourself in the exercises and try to jump to your limit and beyond. By pushing yourself, your muscles are forced to regenerate to a level that meets your new jumping ability.
