The best bikes for teens

In today’s world not too many teenagers are concerned about riding a bike. However, for those who have children that are teens and they still enjoy riding a bike, here are a few suggestions on what they might like and what suits them best.

*Teenage Commuters*

If your teenager needs to take a bus a lot or constantly asks you for rides to school or the park, it may be time for you to look into a bike for your teen. With the public going green, bikes are becoming more popular today. This would be a great time to join the bandwagon as it were and get your teen their own bike. If this is specifically for commuting, you may decide on a good reliable but fast slim line bike. Some good feature to look out for would be large wheel size, generally 24 to 26 inches. The size of the wheel plays a large role in just how fast you can make your bike go. The bigger the wheel the more momentum you can create and the faster you will accelerate. Another facet of the bike you should look at is the width of the tires. The wider the tires, the more friction is created when you pedal. This overtime can slow you down and cause you to waist a lot of energy on futile pedaling. The weight of the wheels and crank set is also important. The lighter wheels are generally made of alloys such as aluminum. The aluminum wheel and rim with cut down on the air resistance and will give you a smoother ride. Also the crank set should be examined to see how it affects the performance of your bike. If you have a heavy crank set it will be more difficult to pedal. With each stroke, your legs will seem to become heavier which will tire you out faster. This is why getting a lighter crank set is beneficial. You will be able to cover much more ground and feel less exhausted by the end of the day.

*Teenage Trail Riders*

If you have a nature loving teen that enjoys a scenic ride, you might find it beneficial to invest in a bike that offers versatility, durability, and a strong main frame. This will allow them to take a ride both in the city and even in a forest preserve. Bikes like these are commonly referred to as a hybrid.

To sum this up, you have to look at what your teenager will be using this bike for. For bikes are only good for certain activities, so be sure to evaluate your circumstance carefully. This will allow you to make the proper purchase and get a bike that your teenager will love and ride for a long time to come.
