I must admit, I am a TV addict... Here is a list (in no particular order) of the shows that I think are the best and why...
24 (Fox, Mondays at 8 Central). Jack Bauer (played by Keifer Sutherland) continues to push the limits in order to save the country from terrorist plots. Set in "real time" this show is different than everything else on TV, and continues to captivate audiences despite the difficulties that this type of show encounters. One of the most exciting things about this show is that writers continue to prove that no character is safe, and you never know who they are going to kill off next! Jack is also an incredibly dynamic character. Keifer Sutherland does a fabulous job portraying him. Despite everything that he has been through and everything he has lost, he is still willing to give everything to save the American People. We should all take a little from Jack's example. I'm voting Jack Bauer for president....
Lost (ABC, Wednesdays at 9 Central). A passenger plane crashes on a mysterious island a thousand miles off course. Survivors are forced to make their way in a land that is often inhospitable. They encounter the "Others," mysterious people who are already living on this island, as well as another mystery, the hatch. Normal boundaries between reality and mysticism seem to blur as the survivors work to survive and find the answer that this island seems to hold. One of the most fascinating things about this show is the flashbacks. Every episode takes a particular character and weaves their present circumstances on the island with flashbacks from their past that help you understand where this character is coming from. Expect the unexpected....
Heroes (NBC, Mondays at 8 Central). All I can say is thank goodness for DVR as this show is up against 24! This is one of the best freshman shows this year. Normal people suddenly find themselves with superhuman powers. An artist who can "paint the future" discovers a bomb that will destroy New York. Heroes work together to "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World." In the midst of all of this, Sylar is hunting and killing Heroes in order to add their power to his own. And a geneticist works to continue his late father's research into the genetic mutation that is giving people these exceptional powers. Unfortunately, this show is one of those that you will find difficult to pick up mid season. The characters and their powers are (reasonably) fresh, although a couple remind me of the X-Men. It's an exciting show
