I went to see this film last night; it was the 3D version so therefore I had to pay slightly more to watch it. The price includes the 3D spectacles. All in all it was just under £10 at the Vue cinema in Romford.
The film is a Tim Burton production, him of Nightmare Before Christmas fame, and from the opening titles it was unmistakably a Burton production.
The story is a sequel to the original Alice in Wonderland and it tells the story of Alice revisiting what she calls Wonderland. The residents know it as the Underworld. Alice is 20 years old at this time and is at a party which turns out to be her engagement party.
She is proposed to and runs off to think about it. She runs after the White Rabbit. He goes down a hole under a tree and she falls down this. This is the entrance to Wonderland. She ends up in a small circular room made up of many doors none of which are able to be opened. One tiny door is to be found near the floor; to this she finds a key. She needs to shrink and does this the same way as in the original by partaking of a magical drink. She is made larger by cake as in the original. I will skip some of the story so you won’t know everything when and if you go to see the film.
Alice is ultimately here to eliminate the red queen and to allow the white queen to rule. This is done by the killing of the Jabberwocky. How this is done I will let you watch and see.
The usual characters are still present such as the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas). The Cheshire cat is here too played by Steven Fry as the voice as the Cat is animated. The cat is especially good in 3d as the head floats out into the audience. The March Hare is played with a Scottish accent and the Mad Hatter also lapses into this accent too. Listen out for the dormouse voice as it is the unmistakable Barbara Windsor.
What was Alice’s answer to the proposal? Watch and you shall find out.
I thoroughly recommend this film for all the family, stay till the end to see the end credits as these are also in 3D. A lot of people leave as these appear so miss the effects.
