The number one element for a quality article is the content. Ask yourself a question: What answers does your article answer. Then answer them. Online writing is much different that any other medium because your article needs to draw organic searches. If the article is buried amass hundreds of similar articles, it will never be read.

Content is king for online writing. But content with SEO is what really counts!

Here are a few things to keep in mind when writing quality articles online.

1. SEO – Search Engine Optimization.

Do it yourself SEO means researching keywords that will drive your article up Google’s Search Engine Results Page (SERP). If your article has quality content, it will find its way to the top of the SERP and more people who will read your article through organic searches.

This is one key element to a quality article.

But what is a quality article?

We’ve established that content is king. So your article has to have valuable content in order for it to be quality. There are a few techniques to make sure your reader gets ‘to the point’ of the article and that, in itself, is the purpose of the article.

2. Write articles with length in mind.

A general rule of thumb to get your article and its SEO keywords found through Google’s WebCrawler’s is to make sure it is at least 300 words in length. Some article submission websites require a minimum of 400 words and no more than 1,000. This is a good rule to follow for article submission. 400 words means your keywords will be mentioned a few times in the article. Anything over 1,000 words might mean unnatural inclusions of keywords throughout the article.

3. Lists are also a great way to ‘get to the point’.

Lists, steps, and important points will really focus in on what the article is about, and you can support those lists, steps and points within the article. Numbered lists are very attractive selling point as well. 5 Ways to do this… 7 reasons why… The top 10 things, etc. Just look at the magazines by the check out counter at the grocery store. They are filled with lists and people buy into it! 

4. “How to” articles are an extremely viable way to attract attention.

Everyone online is looking for a “how to” article. You can write a, “How to tie your shoe” and someone will be looking for that article. “How to” articles are such a popular niche that any “how to” article with quality and SEO can attract an audience.
