Have you looked around the fashion stores lately? There are so many beautiful crocheted garments on the racks, but they are so expensive. If you learned to crochet, and could make them yourself, they would cost a fraction of the price. A few skeins or balls of yarns and you can make a lovely shrug or bolero.
Crochet is portable, you can crochet anywhere, on buses, trains, airplanes (most airlines will allow you to take a small plastic hook into the cabin), in the doctor’s or hospital waiting room, whilst riding as a passenger in a car or during your lunch break at work. There are so many different things you can make using crochet, lace curtains, toys, garments for men, women and children, afghans, baby blankets, scarves, hats, rugs for the floor, to a coat for the dog.
Crochet is not illegal, immoral or fattening. While you are crocheting, you cannot eat fattening foods nor do anything else harmful. Crocheting is soothing, there is something calming about the rhythm of the hook travelling up and down the rows of your project. You can sit listening to music or the radio serenely crocheting life’s cares away.
It can be an inexpensive hobby if you shop around for your yarn. Plenty of on line suppliers and yarn mills will supply yarn cheaply. There are free crochet patterns for anything you could ever wish to crochet available on the internet.
The renewed interest in needlecrafts means that crochet clubs are starting everywhere. The internet has meant that crocheters across the World can contact one another and crochet groups on the web mean that there is always somewhere a crocheter can ask a question, get help, encouragement, or just discuss crocheting.
A resurgence of interest in crochet has brought new fresh, innovative pattern designers to the fore. They are designing beautiful, fashionable garments and causing everyone to look afresh at what you can do with crochet.
When you crochet, you do not need to have the expensive crochet garments that the shops sell. You can make your own much more cheaply and by varying the stitches and, as you get more experienced, adapting the pattern you can make a unique garment.
Crochet is a skill and a craft as well as an art. You can do amazing things with crochet. You can make beautiful items that people will treasure. You can make an heirloom christening robe or a wedding dress, Christmas decorations or a baby blanket, a much-loved soft toy, baby shoes, the crochet World is enormous. Once you learn to crochet, you have a hobby for life. The only limit to what you do is your own imagination.
