My favourite band is The Beatles. These four mop tops from Liverpool in England changed the music industry and pop culture over their 7 yrs at the top of the charts. From their very first album, "Please Please Me", to the their final release "Let It Be", their success was phenomenal and their influence on modern day music even more impressive.
When they first started out The Fab Four were nothing more than a popular mersey beat band playing the clubs in Liverpool and struggling for an audience in Hamburg. John would shred his vocals with rock n roll classics like "Rock n Roll Music" by Chuck berry while Paul would melt hearts covering ballads like "A Taste Of Honey". Their true success came though, when they started to try their hand at writing their own music. After just managing to get a record deal with Apple Records they were able to record the music they had written and with the help of George Martin these songs became instant hits. Songs like "Please Please Me" , "She Loves You" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" sky rockete up the charts all over the globe. In fact at one stage they held all 5 top spots on the American Billboard Charts, complete domination of the music industry had never been seen before and would never be seen again.
It is fair to say though, that they peaked as a group with their mid 60's albums "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver". Rubber Soul conveyed their fine tuned songwriting skills while Revolver proved that The Beatles could successfully tackle any musical genre. Unfortunately, in the following years personalities clashed and the cracks in the band started to show. Although "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" Band is hailed as a victory for pop culture musically it wasnt as strong as previous efforts and following albums were not up to the high standard that "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" had set. With John clearly expressing his intentions to leave the band Paul announced that he was quitting and announced the release of a solo album. This signalled the official end of the most influential music act of all time.
For me, I love The Beatles so much because they have a song for every occasion. No matter what kind of mood I am in their is a Beatles song i can really connect with and whose brilliance I can always appreciate. They are without doubt one of the most popular bands of all time. And without a doubt my personal No. 1!
