Cayenne Pepper became known to the world around 15 century and since then, although it is hot and spicy has its share of lovers all over the world. Originally named after a city in French Guiana, Cayenne, this herb cum spice is also known as Guinea Pepper or Bird Pepper. Nicholas Culpepper in his book Complete Herbal in the 17 century wrote the first known health benefit of this magic and beneficial spice.
Nutritional Benefit of Cayenne Pepper:
Cayenne Pepper contains a very large amount of Vitamin A. It is said that just 2 tsp of this herb provides around 29.4% of daily value of Vitamin A. The red color of this spice is said to because of its high content of beta-carotene or pro-vitamin A. The herb also contains Vitamin B6, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, potassium and manganese.
Cancer and Cayenne Pepper:
In a very recent study, conducted at The Nottingham University Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, researchers confirmed an important chemical was found in Cayenne Pepper that works at destroying Cancerous cells. Cayenne Pepper is said to trigger the cancer cells' death by attacking mitochondria - the cells' energy-generating boiler rooms. Thus a small amount of this spice in the diet can work a lot beneficial for those suffering with Cancer.
