Miracles.
People who claim to have experienced miracles are usually Christians, Christians believe in miracles because their son of god- Jesus Christ- was a miracle worker. People who are Atheists or have no religion usually convert to Christianity if they experience ‘miracles’. Modern day miracles are usually recovering from a terminal disease, crippling injuries, surviving accidents or beating the odds. Almost every miracle can be explained scientifically, more likely than supernatural forces interfering with the material world. For example, a person having a miraculous recovery from a terminal illness- maybe the doctor got it wrong or the person was so determined to recover that his mind helped his immune system combat the virus.
The difference between a miracle and a coincidence is that a miracle is said to be impossible unless a divine power is involved and a coincidence is when ‘the right thing happens at the right time’. The person who benefits from a coincidence (eg. Surviving a car crash unharmed) could easily mix the two up.
Along with James Keller, many philosophers say, “The claim that God has worked a miracle implies that God has singled out certain persons for some benefit which many others do not receive implies that God is unfair”. Christians have an account of many miracles in the Bible; these are said by them to be true. One example is God splitting the Red Sea for Moses and his followers to cross, then after they are safely through releasing a storm to drown their chasers. But, there are many conspiracy theories by the skeptics doubting the truth behind the Bible. There is even one by Naum Volzinger-a ‘believer’- who published a study proving the crossing of the Red Sea to be scientifically possible but unlikely. He said ‘I am convinced that God rules the Earth through the laws of physics.’
Many Christian communities get together and pray for the same things (eg. world peace, no cancer, no poverty, no racism etc.) to actively encourage miracles. People who don’t believe in miracles are constantly trying to find explanations to them. Even people who believe in them also try to find explanations, like Naum Volzinger and his Red Sea theory. But, miracles have to be relevant to daily life; otherwise people wouldn’t care about them. Maybe only people who need to be saved experience eye-catching miracles such as surviving a three-way truck collision and the rest
