Learn to choose Happiness

Most people think that happiness is something that happens to us when we make the right choices in life. If only we can choose the right partner in life or the right career or the right place to live we'll be happy.

There are many people, who don't find happiness, however, even though they seem to have made the right choice. They conclude that happiness doesn't lie in the object they've chosen and so they look for another object. This way they spend their whole lives in a search for happiness which they never find, going from one object to another, sometimes accumulating several spouses, many homes and much wealth without finding happiness.

Human beings perceive all objects by means of two abstract powers, imagination and thought and 5 physical powers of vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste.

By means of the two abstract powers a person decides what brings him happiness, what is beautiful, what is good etc. The physical powers are used for perceiving physical characteristics of objects, like color, shape, texture, taste etc.

People choose an object either by means of their power of imagination or by their power of thought. Either they imagine it will bring them happiness or they think it will bring them happiness.

Unfortunately most people use imagination in making choices. They are so unfamiliar with the power of thought that they even imagine they're thinking when in fact they are imagining.

Advertisers are well aware of this human error and they go all out to cultivate our imaginations. They teach us to imagine that certain physical characteristics of the objects will bring happiness.

They do this by associating the object they're selling with some physically attractive phenomenon like sex, money, good looks, physical strength etc. Our power of imagination does the rest and we choose the object. A short while afterwards we're disappointed because we aren't happy.

So the search goes on and advertisers are more and more successful in selling products because they've succeeded in stimulating our imaginations and lulling our power to think into a deep sleep.

The more people are deluded into imagining instead of thinking the more they imagine that their happiness lies in choosing the right object.

The truth is that every object in the universe has the potential to be the right object to bring us happiness. Imagination blinds us to this potential happiness, thought opens our eyes to it.
