"The Reflection I See"
As I stand in the bathroom
I gaze into the mirror.
I see flaws, I see bags.
The shadows cascade underneath
my unhappy eyes.
Lines are on my forehead.
They are from years of
doubting, worrying, and caring.
My lips are open, getting ready
to speak, but I just sigh.
Five o'clock shadow appears
at 9. I see a nose with a curvy
bend in the middle of my face.
I try to focus on my pros, but dwell
on the cons of the past.
My mouth opens and you see my teeth.
They are crooked and I have an over-bite.
I have fear in my eyes and my face portrays
terror. My ears are too big, my hair is red, and
my cheeks are not perfect. This is reality, this is me.
Nothing is perfect in the reflection I see.
