Some off duty habits, commitments and lifestyles can affect employment in a very positive manner, for example taking on volunteer, social or political commitments such as community volunteering or working with popular political parties. Employees with positive lifestyles, hobbies and commitments often find that these can spill over to the workplace providing a happier worklife and a satisfying career path.
On the other hand, there are several off duty habits and activities that can affect your employment detrimentally. Some examples of these include: regular drug taking, gambling, drinking to excess, constant partying, pursuing additional educational opportunities, family and carer commitments and, unfortunately, even participating successfully in sports activities.
The following details relate to off duty habits that may end up affecting employment in a detrimental way, with the most severe instances even leading to the situation of being fired from the workplace:
* Off Duty Habits that Can Affect Employment - Drugs Taking, Alcohol Abuse, Constant Partying
Employers may look extremely harshly upon workers with off duty habits like taking drugs, alcohol abuse and even constant partying. All of these activities can lead to poor timekeeping resulting in late arrival at work and lack of concentration in the workplace. Of course drug and alcohol abuse may also mean employees are working while still under the influence of excessive drugs or alcohol consumption which could effectively lead to major safety risks in the workplace, accidents or losing a driving license. In these circumstances the risks to other people are immense and employers could well terminate employment.
Just some of the side effects of drugs and alcohol abuse, and also constant partying, are lethargy and tiredness in the workplace which at the very least means employees cannot focus on their work or concentrate properly and eventually leads to them having a reputation for being an unreliable worker. Constantly calling in sick can be another result of these off duty habits which becomes irritating to employers.
* Gambling Addictions can Affect Employment
Employees with addictive gambling habits may also find that this eventually impacts upon the workplace. Unreliability and poor timekeeping, with constant days off to pursue gambling activities will soon result in dismissal from employment. Furthermore, it's extremely possible that gambling
