Here are a few tips for getting the most mileage out of your tank.
Keep your tyres properly inflated. Over and under-inflated tyres have more resistance, and waste more petrol (gas). Also, keep your tyres in good condition. Replace when necessary.
Keep your car tuned up. Spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, engine oil, transmission oil, etc... . All these play a role in how much petrol your car uses.
When traveling at faster speeds, keep your windows up. The air conditioning will waste less fuel at highway speed than opening your windows. Open your windows when you are traveling slowly.
Accelerate and brake steadily. Keep it smooth.
Don't keep things you don't need in the car. More weight means more fuel.
Also, I've heard that it's best to fill up in the morning or at night. Try to avoid pumping petrol during the day. Some think that, because of the heat, the petrol expands (it does) and you pump less for your money. I'm not really sure this makes a significant difference thought.
