The number one reason for Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell on Fox's American Idol is ratings. American Idol is a complete ratings powerhouse for Fox. Do you think anyone is going to want to watch Randy, Ellen and Kara alone next year? No way. They need to replace Simon Cowell with well Simon Cowell or someone just like him. Personally, I don't think anyone will do for that show what Simon does, but they do need a replacement and so far
Howard Stern is the best candidate for the job.
The shock value of Howard Stern alone makes me want to watch. This is a man whose show is now on Satellite radio and he can say anything he wants to. I know how risque his radio show used to be. I can imagine what it is now there are not the same restrictions and guidelines from the FCC. Anyways, I think we all want to see Howard spout off and call someone a curse word. There is an element of surprise with him.
Howard Stern says what is on his mind. American Idol is an empire that needs the teen and tween audience to continue their success. Bringing in someone who is so controversial and whose favorite topic clearly is sex, it would be very interesting. People will want to watch just to see what Howard Stern has to say, how he judges people, what he thinks of their clothes, their dancing and oh yeah their singing.
Howard Stern has been around long enough to have that knowledge of what it will take these kids to be superstars. And yes singing talent is the number one thing but it is not the only thing these contestants need. Look at some of the previous winners, there is a reason some stand out and some just never make it. I think Howard will be able to pick out the contestant with that "it" factor.
Howard will also bring that brutal honesty everyone has come to expect from Simon Cowell. He would bring fresh blood and liven up the show. He is also the best bet for Fox to keep the ratings up. Can you just see him arguing with Ryan Seacrest and calling him names? I think it is the next best thing for Fox. There does not appear to be an end in sight for American Idol. Howard Stern should bring in a new demographic of viewers, whether they stay or not will be key. But in the meantime, everyone will win. Idol lives on, Fox has the ratings it wants and Seacrest still has those five other jobs just in case.
