Of the Future
The girl I will marry
some day
will be beautiful,
intelligent, wise
and good. I know that
for certain. Her face,
features and figure
are not so clear –
they might be any
of the thousands I’ve imagined.
She might be champagne-haired
or she may have ebony curls.
I think of her facelessness
and know I have yet to meet her.
I pass the time of day
in her company
and wonder if reality would be harsher.
Anyway, that’s left to be seen,
like her. I wonder, does she exist?
Does she cherish such a dream
as I do? What can she be doing
as I pen these words?
