Where to find crochet stitch guides online

by Betty Carew

Created on: March 13, 2010

Perhaps the best help for a beginner in crocheting is to have someone to actually show them stitch by stitch what to do. This is not always possible so the next best thing for a beginner is to watch a video of how the stitches are made from beginning to end. There are only six basic stitches in crocheting and once you have learnt these you can crochet anything if you have an understanding of reading the pattern. There are hundreds of such videos online to help you learn this wonderful craft.

There are hundreds of free sites that you can read how to crochet but for some it does not take the place of actually seeing what is happening. This is where videos come in handy. It is very similar to having a person actual show you what to do. If you are a pro at crocheting pattern reading the instruction should be quite easy for you to follow. Here are a few sites that will accommodate both.

The beginner

For the beginner Tip Nut is a fabulous site.  On this site you do not have to sign up it is free for the viewing. You can choose from the printed instructions or watch their video. They will take you through step by step instructions in the simplest form by starting with how to hold your hook. Their video tutorials show you how to make the first chain and guide you through the process with ease.

You will start with a simple slip knot and move on to the chain. They also give you lessons on how to crochet. This site is ideal for beginners and you cannot flub up from the time you take the hook and yarn in your hand until the time you finish. You can visit this site at http://tipnut.com/learn-how-to-crochet-free-resource -guide/ and scroll down to watch the list of videos that are offered.

Advanced crochet

For the advanced person that crochets that is looking for a bit of a challenge you can visit Stitch Diva Studios. Some of the patterns on this site you will have to pay for but there are also some free patterns offered. If you are up for a challenge this site may be just what you had in mind. They give clear concise instructions with the pattern and also feature knitting patterns.  They offer patterns which include entrela crochet.  This is a very advanced form of crochet and in order to learn this you have to know the Tunisian Simple Stitch. You can visit Stitch Diva Studios at http://www.stitchdiva.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid =FREE008.
