Are you an alcoholic?

by Rebecca Deen

Created on: March 13, 2010

Do you drink alcohol every night? Do you have more than one when you drink every night? Do you have more than two? Do you think you can quit drinking cold turkey and suffer no consequences? If you answered yes to the first three questions and no to the last question then you probably are an alcoholic. What can you do about it? Keep reading and I'll tell you.

I used to date a guy who had a major problem with alcohol. He was out get sloshed every night and his drink of choice was Jim Beam. He was an alcoholic long before I started dating him and I went out and got drunk with him one night and I fell in lust immediately. I took him on as a project and I really helped him a lot before breaking things off. I will tell you that I don't have any kind of degree or schooling in this area, I only have personal experience.

The main thing that I did was I supported him through it and I tried my best to keep him away from it. If you have a significant other or a spouse, then I'm sure they will be willing to support you in your journey against alcoholism. I would try to go everywhere with him whenever possible and when I was with him he wouldn't drink. However, there were many times I caught him drinking behind my back. When that happened there was a lot of yelling involved and he eventually straightened up.

Another thing that really helped him a lot was the fact that he had a friend who was a drug addict. His friend introduced him to NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings. He went to a few NA meetings with his friend and he confided to me that he felt the meeting were helping him. The meetings are just like AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings except they are special for people with drug problems.

My ex is now living with his new girlfriend in a tiny town and he very rarely ever drinks anymore. I won't say he doesn't drink at all because he does, but when he does drink he doesn't drink the hard stuff. He sticks to beer and I really feel like he's doing so much better. He looks better too. Alcohol has a bad affect on the way you look. With a little support from your family and friends and maybe a few AA meetings you can be like my ex and beat your alcoholism.
