We don't fear our parents who love us, do we? So please consider God as a father who loves us and has already sacrificed his only begotten son for us. W e should, however have reverence for God. This means to honor and respect God for he has given us life and will never ever forsake us in this life. God has made a promise to us and God is faithful to all of his promises. In the Bible, I will call it the reference manual for all of God's promises, let us examine this promise further.
The book of Romans explains this promise of salvation from sin , death and suffering. Romans 8:1 states this,"There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the spirit."
God is not a one who holds grudges and plans our demise. God is willing and able to forgive us of our sins. Atonement and repentance from our sins, has to be sincere.
Perhaps this example will illustrate this point more clearly. Your mother or father might be greatly disappointed in you and may even render some form of punishment for your misdeed. They won't stop loving you and may even tell you it will be better if you tell the truth , rather than lie to them. God does understand as humans we succumb to worldly desires and betray him by disobeying him. Most of us know when we have disappointed God. A spirit of guilt may come over you. In essence, guilt may be the only punishment some of us need.
A self-accusing spirit may be punishment enough for those that believe in God. God is ready to forgive us of our past sins. it is now up to us to forgive ourselves and not continue to condemn ourselves. This mode of thinking is offered freely to the Christian.
The next time, you might say or do something that may have offended someone. Please don't let anger or pride get in the way of atoning or asking for forgiveness of your sin. The next mode of thinking should be no condemnation on your part, just as God has done for us. So many times he gives us examples of how to deal with our own shortcomings and falling way too short.
We should never fear God, because he gives us so many opportunities to get it right. Be patient with yourself. You are a work in progress and God is not finished with you yet.
