What makes an online game enjoyable?

by Brian Lamacraft

Online games have become a part of our society and there are several things that make them enjoyable to play. A great game uses some or all of this factors which draw users to the game in droves.

Fun Factor

A game played online is nothing unless it is fun. The game has to keep you coming back for more and asking for more from the developers. When you meet someone and they tell you a game is fun you might just want to try it out. We play games that are fun and make our online time enjoyable. Popular online games get that way because they have that fun factor that we all want when you play a game in the firs place. You want to be transported away from the everyday world and into a game that is fun.

Things To Do

We have all played online games that looked good on the outside but once you started playing it there was nothing to do inside the game. Enjoyable games have planet for you to do and keep you engaged. It might be exciting levels, great dungeons, or plenty of character customizations. When you have things to do in a game you want to come back for more and keep playing. Even if it’s a simple game it needs to have different play modes or challenges to keep it engaging and fun.

Exciting Multiplayer

Most online games feature some sort of multiplayer function which is essential for an enjoyable game. The multiplayer must be fun and not frustrating for the players involved. It must be easy to set up teams and to manage them. The game play must be exciting enough that team members don’t leave and look for other games. A enjoyable game has great multiplayer functionality and keeps players in the game wanting to play.

Community

An enjoyable game that is played online needs to have a great community for players to find out information about the game and to meet other players. An enjoyable game has great forums and the developers answer questions promptly for the end user. Game that support poor communities drive users away to better games. If developers don’t want to support their games with a great community it drives down the fun factor for players and their overall enjoyment of the game.

Fresh Content

An enjoyable online game has fresh content added periodically to keep the game fresh. Game players won’t stick with a game unless it continues to update and give them incentives to keep coming back. New levels, weapons, armor or other things to so are essential to keep a game fresh and enjoyable for users.

Enjoyable games have several key factors the first being the fun factor. Games have plenty of exciting things to do, they have engaging multiplayer, they have a good community and they constantly keep updated with new things for the end user.
