It has been know throughout the ages that the christian religion does not approve of homosexuality. I will not attempt to quote bible verses here in order to prove this common knowledge point. Christians are collectively called Christians because they share a set of beliefs which are based on the bible. Christians believe in the existence of God and both agree with and attempt to follow what they believe to be the word of God. Gay people do not agree with and attempt to follow these teachings. On the point of homosexuality gay people and the church have opposing points of view and can not be labeled as both belonging to a group with the same shared belief system.

Christians believe that homosexuality is wrong. If there are gay people who believe this then they can be Christians. Essentially gay people do not believe it is wrong to be gay, why do they want to be members of a belief system that condemns them? This seems a strange contradiction to say the least. There have been many news reports about gay couples wanting the marriage blessing of the church,  yet it is widely known that Christian churches in general do not approve of gay marriages. Essentially it seems that gay people do not want to be Christians if it means they have to believe what Christians believe. It is unfair to ask Christians to alter their beliefs about gay unions,as it is also unfair to ask gay people to alter their beliefs or sexual orientation.

One thing that remains clear is that Christians and gay people do not share the same religious beliefs. Can anyone who does not believe in the teachings of the church be a christian? If members of other religions wanted to be called Christians would the church be called upon to alter its fundamental belief system in order to accommodate them? Of course it wouldn't!

The only way gay people can become Christians is if they change their point of view about homosexuality or convince the christian church to change it's point of view. Neither one of these seems likely. Gay people are of course free to call themselves Christians but essentially they do not believe in Christianity in its entirety. Entirety is the key word here is it possible to be a christian when you only believe some of the churches teachings? Christians believe that it isn't. They believe that the word of God is their law and can not be questioned or changed, gay people do not agree on this point either. Gay people are not people who believe and agree with the teachings of the christian church. Being a christian requires believing in and agreeing with the teachings of the church.
