At the age of 38, the headlines reported that Corey Haim is dead. The 1980s child star was known for his drug addiction – which some say helped end his career in Hollywood. From child star to his more recent roles (one of which is currently in production), Corey Haim was a talented performer traveling down a path of destruction.
Born in Canada, December 23, 1971, Corey Ian Haim was the son of French-Canadian Bernie Haim and Israeli Judy Haim. Siblings included a sister Carol and half-brother Daniel Lee. Corey Haim died in Burbank, California, on March 10, 2010. But there are many experiences that surrounded Haim’s life during his short 38 years.
In 1984, Corey Haim took a role in the hit “Firstborn,” which also starred hot Hollywood names Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert Downey, Jr., and Teri Garr. But the role in which Haim is most noted for was in “The Lost Boys.” Haim teamed up with Corey Feldman for many acting performances including “The Lost Boys,” “Lucas,” and later in 2006 when Haim and Feldman appeared in the reality show “The Two Coreys.”
The ’06 show could have been a new start for Haim. However, “The Two Coreys” would only last two seasons. Even with the popularity of the show, Corey Feldman would not commit to a third season which some blame on Haim’s continued use of drugs. Haim would later take out an ad in Variety magazine stating that he had underwent treatment and was sober. His drug usage caused other problems in his relationships – both personal and business. Brooke McCarter would stop managing the star over problems associated with Haim’s drug addiction.
It wasn’t a secret that Corey Haim had an addiction problem. During his relationship with Nicole Eggert, Haim was taken to the hospital by Eggert after an episode of what has been described as a “narcotic rush.” Haim has talked publicly about a stroke he suffered that was brought on from his drug usage and how he smoked his first joint when working on the movie “The Lost Boys.”
During his life, Haim was involved in many relationships, which included engagements to actress Tiffany Shepis and Holly Fields. When the announcement of Haim’s death was made, he had projects in the works. The movie “The Science of Cool” is scheduled to be released this year (2010). He was currently filming in the movie “The Dead Sea.”
Drugs and Hollywood is a combination often seen – many times with devastating results. Corey Haim is another victim of the choices people make throughout their life. The talented Corey Haim will be missed by everyone, including his devoted fans.
