Hair is such a fun accessory to work with because it comes in so many different textures, colors and types. Whether you have wild, untamed tresses or smooth, straight locks, all hair types share one common factor; all hair types look better healthy. You might believe that achieving a healthy head of hair is time consuming and costly, but this belief is a common misconception. There are several simple measures you can take to keep your tresses in top condition.
Regular Trimming
No matter how thick and strong your hair is, it breaks constantly at the ends. Hair breakage usually occurs as a result of daily activities such as washing and blow-drying. Too much breakage can cause your hair to appear dull and listless over time. If you are attempting a longer style, breakage also prevents hair from growing to its fullest potential. To prevent hair breakage, get your hair trimmed at the ends every two to three months. Lopping off a mere half inch every few months prevents your hair from getting those unsightly broken ends.
Deep Conditioning
You probably already condition your hair thoroughly after each washing. Make sure that you treat your hair to a deep conditioner at least once a week also. Most likely, you can find an adequate deep conditioner that fits your budget at the drug store. Deep conditioning products often come in a jar and are slightly thicker than regular conditioners. Simply slather the deep conditioner into your hair and allow it to set for five to ten minutes before rinsing out. Deep conditioners penetrate hair to repair it from the inside out. After using such a product, your hair should appear shinier and feel softer to the touch.
Balanced Diet
It might seem odd, but caring for yourself on the inside really shows results on the outside. Eating a balanced diet can make your hair stronger and shinier (not to mention give you radiant skin and stronger fingernails). Make sure that you drink at least sixty four ounces of water a day and eat three to five servings of fruit or vegetables. Additionally, ensure that you consume about five servings of grain, two servings of protein and two servings of dairy daily. Limit your intake of empty calories such as soda, chips and chocolate. If your busy schedule often prevents you from eating the most balanced diet, make sure that you take a good multivitamin supplement.
Now that you are caring for yourself from the inside out, hopefully results in your physical appearance will follow. Whatever hairstyle you desire, just remember that it will look loads better if you have a healthy head of hair to reinforce it.
