Creating your life as a writer means you are willing to write during your spare time, while holding down a full time job, or two jobs, to earn enough money to support yourself and your family. See yourself as a writer, and take the opportunity to write any chance you get, about something you know well, and communicate to your reader. Sometimes people who are interested in writing, start by writing a letter to editor of your town or city newspaper, about sports, people, organization in town, politics or something else. Great writers start small in some newspaper or with a magazine, or with a Helium to get their start in writing. Get started now.
Your early writing is esential to develop writing tools.
Keep copies of your work, and review them, to determine whether or not, you could make some changes in your writing, so it would become easier to read, and have more punch to it, and send a solid message to the readers which they will enjoy, and will look for your future articles, in Helium or other outlets. Never stop reading other excellent writers, especially the writers who have a track record of writing successful articles and books. Writing and reading go hand in hand, as love and marriage, keep improving on your writing by simply writing every chance you get, and read to keep up with your research for your current article or writing piece.
Writing is not easy, expect setbacks, rejections and doing the rewrites.
Writing is a lot like sales work, your product at a writer is your article, word for work, and when you work hard, and present it for publication, and the publisher, states, "Sorry, but your article on "Success In The 2lst Century" is being sent back to you because it fails to meet our needs right now." Go over the article, and find out why you feel the publsiher decided to send it back to you. Did you organize your writing so it has a unique message, was easy to read and understand? Did you make material easy enough to understand that the reader learned something new, about the field of success today.
