A guide to crochet magazines

by Donna Collinsworth

Created on: March 08, 2010

Magazines that feature only crochet projects and patterns are getting harder and harder to find.  It seems they have either been combined into one magazine or just out of business altogether.  These magazines not only supply a source of free patterns, but they also allow a person to stay on top of trends and find out about new yarns available in the marketplace.

Where are crocheters to go to get their inspiration?

Here are the few magazines left around:

Crochet Magazine: “isn't the same old magazine that your grandmother had” is their tag line.

You can also find them on line at: http://www.crochetmagazine.com/webbonuses.php) material for those who do subscribe.

Interweave Crochet magazine: “is your single best source for crochet news, ideas, articles, and best of all — patterns” is their tag line.  You can find them on the web at: http://www.interweavecrochet.com/projects.asp) posted as well.

Crochet World: “the magazine for crochet lovers” is their tag line and can be found on the web at: http://www.crochet-world.com/comingnextissue.php The site is geared more to purchase of patterns than providing a source for free ones.

Crochet Me: “linking the crochet community” is their tag line and can be found at: http://www.crochetme.com/forums/),

advice and patterns (http://www.crochetme.com/media/g/crochet-me-patterns /default.aspx)

Quick & Easy Crochet: “magazine is designed for anyone who loves crocheting and anyone who wants to learn” is their tag line.  It is published 6 times a year and if you do a search on Google you can find tons of magazine services that can help you subscribe to the magazine all though I could not find a web site of their own.

Below is one of the few knitting (no knitting is not a bad word) magazines out that also feature crochet patterns along with its knit patterns.  But don't expect  the same ratio.  One to two crochet patterns per issue is usually the norm.

Vogue Knitting: “the Ultimate Knitting Experience” is their tag line.  You can find them on the web at: http://www.vogueknitting.com/free_patterns.aspx  You need to put crochet in the search box in order to find any crochet patterns, as a default it will come up with their knit patterns.

Don't get too discouraged.  If brave enough you can even convert the knit patterns into crochet.  Here are a few links that can help you do just that: http://www.ehow.com/how_18632_convert-knitting-patte rn.html
