Breast implants have become a lot more popular and mainstream in recent years, and are now more accepted and common than ever before. The reasons that women decide to have them  often varies greatly, although still most commonly they are done for aesthetic reasons.

In the past there were certain assumptions made about women who mad breast implants, and there were a lot of negative stereotypes associated with the procedure. In recent years though the image of breast implants has changed radically, and as they have become more accessible they have also become more widely accepted.

Probably the most common reason that women have breast implants is simply that they want to look the way that they used to either when they were younger or before they had children.

Both aging and breast feeding can take a toll on the breast tissue, as can losing or gaining large amounts of weight. Because of this breasts often sag and droop as women age. Some women then get breast implants to look the same as they did when they were younger, which in turn makes them feel more attractive.

From an evolutionary perspective, large breasts are thought to subconsciously be attractive to men because they are a sign of being able to support and feed offspring. This goes some way to explaining why men are attracted to women with large breasts, and why some women tend to feel rather masculine if they do not have large breasts. This in turn explains why some women have breast implants, although ironically the procedure often renders women unable to produce milk.

Another of the more common reasons women can decide to get implants is purely to make themselves feel better if they have smaller breasts. Often women with small breasts can feel rather androgynous or even masculine, and feel that they lack the femininity of other women. This in turn makes them feel less attractive and confident. Breast enlargement then is often a means of feeling better about themselves and gaining confidence.

Despite the range of different measures and breast enlargement options that there are today, most of them are only marginal in their overall effect, breast implants on the other hand always make a noticeable difference. There are usually fairly safe as cosmetic procedures go, and are guaranteed to change your appearance to a significant degree.

Certain professions also have a high instance of breast implantation, largely models, actresses and adult entertainers such as dancers. The reason being that appearance and
