Novel Excerpts: The Ruins

Aeostria ran her finger along the old wall feeling the craftsmanship that had go into making of it. A long flowing cream colored dress fell long reaching the trail she walked.  The bottom of her garment drug on the ground over green grass patches.  Small braches had fallen from the overwhelmingly huge trees that webbed on the walls top.  ‘What happened here,’ she thought ‘what caused this mighty fortress to fall?’

“I was a number of things,” a calm man’s voice came from a dark spot in the trees.

She gasped with fear drawing her dagger, “Who are you!”

“Relax,” The man swung down from the tree branch with only a pair of leather scale pants on.  His shoulder length black hair and a light coffee brown skin tone housed his muscular upper body.  Aeostria  slowly leaned up against a stone wall feeling a bit faint. “How rude of me I am Lord Eldwyn of the forest fort.” He does a slight bow with his hair falling forward revealing his elf like ears.

“you’re an Elf...” fear echoed from her voice. “Please don’t hurt me.”

“Hurt you…Why would I.” with his right hand he reached down to his elven katana. “Oh because of this? Here I will give it to you if it make you feel better.” Eldwyn unstrapped it and laid it at her feet.

“your kind are never nice…But I never seen one of your peoples so close.” She slowly reached down and picked up the sword.

“Well we have to start some time.”  Eldwyn twisted his wrist and a root popped out of the ground forming a chair for his to sit on. After he sat with his right hand an apple fell into his hand. “So what is the princess of Anthena walking in the ruins unguarded?”

“Oh I am guarded…guarded very well…by a brute of a man.” She said looking at the ground.

“If he is such a goof, then why does your father want you to marry him?” he asked reading her mind.

She slightly gasped, “You can read minds, I was going to tell you…”

“Aeostria!” a sword swings cutting a branch interrupting her sentence. “Aeostria!”

Eldwyn leaps from the root like chair to the large branch over laying the ruined wall. “Wait, when will see you again.” Aeostria asked still holding the elven katana.

He turned around slowly as slide his arms
