Let’s Remodel the Bathroom!

Or…not!

Congratulations! You’ve made the decision to make the decision to remodel your bathroom. Or, not…So, now what?

Well, let’s begin at the beginning. The first thing most people don’t give a lot of thought to is the WHY? It seems like a DUH!, but it’s really very important to consider your reasons for remodeling, obvious as that seems. What you THINK is your motivation may only scratch the surface.  Careful thought and discussion with other members of your family may solidify your decision; or it may change your mind. What do I mean…?

The second major point that’s a no-brainer, but requires a good deal of thought in some cases, is the question of gut or fix? Do you want to remove everything from the sheetrock to the sub floor, or just buy a new shower curtain? Hmm-m-m. Or maybe somewhere in between?

Third major decision to make: are you going to hire a contractor, or attempt the job yourself?        Yikes! Hopefully, by the time you have reached the end of this       tutorial, you will know the answer to this one. Your confidence level may be a little shaky by the time you finish reading; and if that’s the case, the job is better left to the experts.  Nothing is worse than getting neck-deep into the destruction of your only bathroom, only to realize you haven’t got a clue what to do next. Laugh if you must, but I have seen it happen, and it’s not pretty! Speaking of only bathrooms, be absolutely sure of your time line.  If you hire a contractor, he breaks a leg in the middle of your job, and you have no other bathroom  to use until the job is done, well, use your imagination. The same is true if you are the one whose femur is fractured. Make arrangements for your family to bathe (or whatever) at a neighbor’s or take a vacation!
