People who are certain that they will succeed can see success mentally, long before it happens.  It is there in the creator’s mind – clear as day.  He believes in his ability to bring it to pass.  Otherwise, he will surely fail.  But seeing what he hopes for doesn’t stop him from adjusting his plans a bit as the vision is becoming a physical reality.  The dream, though, remains intact.

What is your dream and how do you see it coming to pass?  Can you see it in your mind’s eye?  This is my way of taking a dream from idea to fruition.  If it is meant to be – it becomes a reality.

* Express your dream in concrete terms:

“I want to become a more assertive person” or “I want to lose 20 pounds in three months.”  Don’t just say, “I hope that someday I am a more assertive person,” or “I’d sure like to weigh less.”  Vagueness sabotages success. 

*  Acquire Information:

Do the research.  Find the right diet for your weight loss goal and talk to other people who have lost weight by this method.  Look around for a class in assertiveness training and sit in on one session to see if it is a viable possibility.   It’s important to check into options that are going to be productive.

*  Develop a plan:

Armed with the tools you need to achieve your dream, put it in writing.  Write a statement of how you are going to achieve your goal. 

*  Get to work:

Begin your diet, count calories and fat grams, plan your meals, write down what you eat, weigh yourself daily, and exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.  Attend an assertiveness workshop, read the books that are assigned by the workshop leader, do the assignments, begin practicing your new-found assertiveness with your family, friends and employer. 

* Take inventory:

After a set amount of time, stop and take inventory.  That’s how retail does it.  Items that don’t sell get marked down and eventually shipped off to outlet stores to make room for new inventory.  If some aspect of your plan is not working, scrap it and go back to the drawing board.  Even the best plans need a little bit of tweaking here and there as they are being implemented.  That’s the reason for dry runs and dress rehearsals – to weed out what is not productive.

* Believe in yourself:

Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

You are a viable, significant person, and your plans are worthwhile.  Do not underestimate your ability to bring your dreams to fruition.

* Reap the benefits:         

Now comes the reward.  At the next business meeting you are able to assert yourself without being aggressive.  Your colleagues are attentive because you are now coming across more effectively than you did before.  You give away your “big” clothes and begin restocking your wardrobe with smaller clothes.  You look better and feel better and your confidence is boosted by your new thinner appearance.

Certainty is an emotional state, and dreams are cerebral.  Success, however, rests in the physical.  Don’t wait any longer to make your dream become a reality.
