Because we are human. We are men and women of this earth. We breathe, eat, drink and hear, remembering all the senses that God has given us. We stored the memories, be they are words, songs, pictures, touches that we had come across before. That, has to do with our brain, that corner call memory.
We grow up with time, experiencing each second of happiness, sadness, anger that touches our souls. We filled each day with hope, excitement, disappointment and even exasperation at times, stringing all those colours of buttons into a mesh of wires call feelings.
The main reason is that, we are the most complex creatures in this whole universe! Because of who and what made us into, we are not born to forget. To forget is a sin and yet not to forget is also a sin. To remember is sometimes akin to walking into a fire, feeling the heat of perspiration and at times suffocation. To remember at times is like walking onto the clouds, be like the wind with wings on the back, light and happy, without worries.
We are trained before we are born to have the skill of holding on to bits and pieces of the pasts that we will go through. No matter how cheerful a person is, at moments when he is alone nursing a drink late into the nights, or looking at the stars scattering through the skies, or listening to a song that sang out from the mp3, a nostalgia wave might just gently rolls over. A certain scenery, a familiar outlines of a face, a nearby laughter, may just trigger up a faraway memory to this man.
It is an addiction to the brain, to always spark up certain images from the pasts, especially at times when we are sad, Like puppets to the Pupeteer, we would against our will lean towards those words from that time and become lost. Yet we have also need to give credence to this behaviour, because at the same time, for some of us it will be like being struck by a lightning. The past awakens us up spiritually and mentally, buzzing around with alarms and signs that we are letting history repeats itself!
We will go through life tasting love, enduring bitterness, managing hatred and juggling happiness with disappointmnent. We will open up a chapter everytime when we create a memory. We would store them up and put it aside. When the time comes and we would definitely know when, we would invite these memories out for a cup of seconds and starts 'appreciating' those moments.
No matter how long it will take humans to evolve again and again, being complex creatures, we will choose to dwell on the past when it suits us. That, is just so human.
