Poetry: You saved me

by Sunshine Simmons

Created on: March 07, 2010

A light in the dark

Not a sign from God, but the hands of Satan

Tugging and pushing

Sneaking and probing

I had to escape, to get out, to get high

Pavement on a strange street surrounded by strange people

Alone and empty

Was safer than my own bed

The man who made me destroyed me

Ruined me

I was dirty and worthless

A twelve-year-old drugged up whore

Belly swollen from his demon seed

Alone

You knew me, my broken life, my struggle

You fought for them to take me in

You sold them, you begged them

Without you my life would have ended on those blood covered streets

They listened and picked me up

Untangled the mangled mess that was me

Proved love was not sex and sex was not love

And that I wasn't a worthless dirty slut

You never left me, not for one single day

God sent you, my angel

Invisible wings of love

You taught me who I am

Our parents may not be the same

But you are my sister

Thank you for the greatest gift of all: me
