The triangle is a great shape to crochet. Triangles can be joined to form patchwork crochet projects such as blankets, jackets or pillows. Triangles can also be used as edging or trim. Best of all, triangles are easy to crochet.

Crochet a solid triangle

You can use worsted weight yarn and a size G, H or J hook to make solid triangles of many different colors for a warm blanket, comfortable jacket or even a shawl. Here are the directions for this basic pattern:

     •    Chain 3. Insert the hook into the 3rd chain from hook and work a slip stitch. Turn.
     •    1st  Row: ch 2 (counts as first hdc); hdc in same sp; 2hdc next st. Turn. (4 sts)
     •    2nd  Row: ch 2 (counts as first hdc); hdc in same sp; hdc across to last st;  2 hdc into last st. Turn. (6 sts).
     •    Repeat row 3 until the triangle is the size you want.
     •    Fasten off.

Crochet a half triangle

If you combine the triangles with squares, rectangles or other shapes, you may need to make some half-triangles for the corners. To make a  half-triangle ( or right triange):

     •    Chain 3. Insert the hook into the 3rd chain from the hook and join with a slip stitch.
     •    1st  Row: ch 2 (counts as first hdc); hdc in same sp; hdc across. Turn. (4 sts)
     •    2nd  Row: ch 2 (counts as first hdc); hdc next sp; hdc across to last st, 2 hdc last st.Turn. (5 sts).
     •    Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the half-triangle is of desired size.

Crochet a lace triangle

You may want to use thread crochet and steel hooks in size 8, 9 or 10 to make some lacy triangles for a pretty pillow, a more delicate wrap, or to add a lacy collar to a dress. The instructions may seem complicated, but making a lace triangle will become easy with practice. To make a lace triangle:

     •    Chain 6. Insert hook into 6th chain from hook and work a slip stitch.
     •    1st Row:  chain 1(counts as first sc), 11 sc in ring, join with sl st to first ch.
     •    2nd Row:  ch 3 (counts as first dc),dc same sp, skip
