Losing weight can be a challenge for anyone. But, if you are a teenager, you are most likely already facing peer pressure, changing hormones, the stress of being in high school, and the anticipation of life beyond graduation. Add a weight loss goal, and this can make an already stressful time even harder.
While this may seem like a challenging time to start a weight loss plan, it may actually be the best time for you in the long run. Changing your lifestyle now, while you are younger, may be easier as you can establish good eating and exercise habits that can continue throughout the rest of your life. Here are some simple tips that may increase your chances of success and help you develop a weight loss plan that will continue throughout your life.
Check With Your Doctor
Before starting a weight loss program, be sure to see your doctor for a full physical. You can talk about your ideal weight based on your height, sex, age, and body type. In addition, he or she can help you identify how many calories you should consume each day based on your activity level and goal weight. Your doctor may have some suggestions about different weight loss plans that will work best for your lifestyle and specific needs. You doctor should be an essential partner in your weight loss plan.
Get Your Family On Board
Having the support of your family members is essential for a successful weight loss plan. As a teenager, you most likely do very little grocery shopping for your household, but probably eat many of your meals at home. To be successful with your weight loss goals, you will need to have healthy snacks and meals at home that you like to eat and can pack for your lunches.
Talk with your parents about your weight loss plan and what healthy foods you like to eat. See if you can make a list each week of the items that you would like them to buy at the grocery store, or if you can have some of the grocery budget yourself so you can do some of the shopping. Or, offer to make one family meal each week. By involving yourself in the shopping and cooking, you will be more likely to find the healthy foods at home that you want to eat.
Find A Weight Loss Partner
Peer pressure during high school is tough, and you may be uncomfortable or embarrassed telling all of your friends about your weight loss plan. However, it is important that you have the support and encouragement you need from
