First thing is know the host, yes the person throwing the party. Reason being is that most people showed up because this person is having a party. Even if you don't know the host and your just a random party go'er find the person he or she and introduce yourself. That way not only are you seen talking to the person who made all the wonderful festivities happen but now your not a stranger in someone's house, so when the house gets to full and its time to kick random people out you most likely you won't be one of those random people.
Now you have to drop your guard and get a little comfortable around your settings, there may be people there you know and you some don't know but that doesn't matter; what does matter is that you get noticed. Your job is to play everything cool, when you a talk to people talk back don't sit quite not saying a word even better say something funny not corny but funny. Get the people around you to think that your a cool laid back person and that your the person that everyone says "Hi" to. Don't forget to be yourself if you start acting like someone else people are going to read straight through that and all your credibility goes down the drain from that point on. For example if you don't smoke then don't try and start smoking at a party, its nasty its going to burn when you inhale it and your gonna cough; once again your smoke screen is blown(No pun intended).
Another thing dress for the occasion don't come to a cocktail party in jeans an a t-shirt, and don't go to a house party in a tuxedo! These are things that WILL get you noticed but not the way you want, so dress modern and for the occasion. Among other thing try to have some style when it comes to dressing a lot of us guys we just throw together a outfit and are ready to go, but taking some time to color coordinate is not any less masculine then clipping your nails or getting your hair cut. And for the ladies if it doesn't fit don't squeeze into because just how you squeezed in, things may try to squeeze out.
Now for the grand finale, ultimately to get noticed at a party you need to become the alpha you see something you want, get it. It's like being in the store and your just pulling clothes off the rack trying them on and tossing them back onto the racks if you don't like them. That's the same idea as getting noticed at a party you have to reach into your bag of tricks and read faces, you CAN always judge a book by the cover if your reading a book from the same author. Once you've read the faces of the ones you seek to gain attention from give them all you have in that bag of tricks, but all the while maintain being you. Never jump outside your comfort zone cause when push comes to shove you get exposed for being desperate and that's not what you are, your just a person trying to seek attention from someone you've already decided to get the attention of!
