Poetry: Dreams & hope

Dreams of a wood burning stove
Cabinets filled with food
Children dancing in the sun
People holding hands across social divides
Smiles upon every face sharing this time and place

Sometimes I wonder why if I am alive
People fill the room with barely inches to spare
Gathered because there is nothing left but the dreams
That one day it will come true that the tears will be wiped away
The stories of our ancestors will abound
This moment in time will be just a memory

Because someday perhaps we will live in harmony
Sharing with other beings everything we have
No children hungry or people left alone
Finding the peace that truly exists somewhere in this reality

Dreams and hopes we can still have
No matter what the adversities
Take the time to hold a hand and dry away a tear
Time to listen and encourage sad hearts

Remember someday you may have nothing to help survive
But dreams and hopes kept in your heart
