Should travelers explore their home country first or travel abroad as often as they can?

All travelers should definitely travel to other countries whenever they have a chance This isn't to say that you should not explore your own country at all, but if you have an opportunity and money, then why not? Do you know that a large portion of travelers are senior citizens? Their children have grown, they don't have jobs to return to and the only thing that decides on where and for how long they go is how much money they have. That clearly means that many people dream of traveling all their lives, but for one reason or another they can do it until they are retired. On the other hand, waiting until retirement imposes certain limitations on people. Your physical condition isn't as good as when you were younger. You may have some medical conditions that restrict you from traveling to certain places. You may even be in a wheelchair. Having said that, the future is unpredictable and if you do not take the advantage of travel opportunities now, later on you may not be able to do it at all.

The world is a beautiful place. People don't live long enough to see every interesting place on Earth. Of course, you should also explore your own country. There may be thousands of people that visit your country every year. So, why wouldn't you want find out what is it that's so interesting here? However, not taking the advantage of travel opportunities when they occur because you haven't seen your country yet is rather silly. There is no reason to feel guilty about traveling abroad. It isn't unpatriotic to visit foreign countries. If you have the will, time and money to do it, by all means go. You can explore your own country a little at a time between your foreign travels. There is nothing wrong with that.

If you want to make your vacation abroad meaningful, explore other countries, check some travel books that list all the interesting places in the country you want to visit. You can also look it up online. But, if you just want to go there to lay on a beach to get some suntan, then to me it is really a waste of resources. Why would you spend time and money to do nothing at all? You can do that for free in your own home town.
