Imagination and other stuff!
Part one
OK now here’s a question for you stuff buffs!
“Are we really the only creature on this planet with the analytical ability to imagine?”
An interesting, debatable question to start off with! Personally I think many of our fellow creatures, not totally reliant on nature may require basic imagination to hunt, or avoid being caught (examples), although one could argue that these skills may have evolved along with them on their evolutionary journey, therefore hunting in packs, or cunningly escaping a pursuer (examples again) maybe perfectly natural abilities, not requiring imagination at all.
Humans however are undeniably reasoning creatures, an exceptional skill which almost certainly is the basic foundation of our imagination, and therefore logical to assume the reason we are so far up the evolution ladder is almost certainly due to this curious, but most extraordinary talent! In fact there is little doubt we have imagination and taken it to a level so high it beggars belief.
Let’s consider just a few interesting examples that require imagination: How about every city, or building in the world, planes in the air, boats so big you can fit whole towns into some of them, clothes we wear and how we wear them, books we write, huge farms and the ability to feed our ever growing human population, countless factories, industry, governments that rule us and politicians that control us, world telecommunication and countless technical inventions, a whole variety of crazy religions, relationships, love, not to mention lust and fantasy. Great philosophers, poets, artists, war, robbery, murder, terrorism and massacres various!
All the above examples have taken imagination to achieve and I could go on with unlimited analogies on the absolute, often deadly genius of it all, but I’m sure you’re well ahead of me. In fact I reckon the only reason we are not still eating nuts in the forest is totally and unequivocally because of our ever growing, enthralling imagination!
Amazing isn’t it?
What I find equally astonishing is that we all tend to take these remarkable wonders of our own creative world almost totally for granted, hardly giving them a second thought. It’s true and here’s a simple example: Most of us own at least one mobile phone and generally well acquainted with how to use them, but how many of us know, or care how they actually work?
On the same tack, although this one is personally
