Cardamom and Your Health
Cardamom (Elettaria Cardamomum) – is known as the aromatic spicy plant that is used as seasoning like cinnamon and cloves especially in pickles, curries, chai and barbecue sauces. It is one of the most valued spices in the world. Cardamom grows as a perennial herb found mainly in India, although Sri Lanka and Guatemala (reportedly the largest modern day producer and distributor: 2007) are active producers in our present age. It has been an active article of merchant trade for centuries.
Cardamom is the name used for two types of herbs from the ginger family of Zingiberaceae: Elettaria and Amomum.
Elettaria is called cardamom, green cardamom, or true cardamom and is distributed from India to Malaysia.

This pungent and flavorful spice, found in kitchens and restaurants around the world, also can benefit our health in various ways. The dried cardamom fruit pods and seeds constitute the part of the plant used mainly for medicinal and health purposes.
