Movie reviews: Green Street 2

by Iain Wilson

Created on: March 04, 2010

Green Street 2 was released in 2009, straight to DVD. It was directed by Jesse V. Johnson and has a runtime of approximately 94 minutes. It is available on Amazon.co.uk for around £5.

~~~ Synopsis ~~~
Following on from the original Green Street, some of the West Ham firm have been put in jail. They're not alone however, with Millwall fans being in the same jail.
The West Ham fans soon learn that life on the inside is anything but a level playing field and have to come up with a way to defend themselves.
~~~ My Opinion ~~~

Being a straight to DVD movie you never know what you're going to get. At the beginning of the movie I was thinking that the rest of the movie was going to be complete rubbish, containing fight after fight without any real story.

That didn't materialise and after around the first 15 minutes or so a story and a proper movie began to develop. There's even a character which was in the first movie - Dave. This at least gives it some credibility that it is slightly tying in with the first movie.

Once the movie does get going it does become quite enjoyable, there is still plenty of violence, but only when necessary (okay maybe there's a bit more than necessary, but what would you expect?).

The other thing you would expect from a movie containing West Ham casuals is of course strong cockney accents and that aspect gets a massive tick. At first I thought it was a bit over the top, but you just get used to it. Thankfully it was only the accent and they left out the rhyming slang.

The main cast do a completely believable job and the fit their roles perfectly. If they were put in front of me and I was told they were football casuals I would find that believable. There's also a Dimitar Berbatov look-alike (I think so anyway).

Overall this is quite a good movie, a lot better than I expected. Fans of the first will enjoy this, although it isn't of the same standard. IF you didn't enjoy the first then there's no chance of you liking this.
