When you talk about what is distinctive or remarkable as it pertains to Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow it does not usually relate to whether he might be a good professional football player.
He won the Heisman as an underclassman, okay, but that was a few years ago. He was the first home-schooled athlete to win the Heisman. So what? He is one of the few NFLers to finish his degree before entering the draft. Again so what?
All that shows you beyond a thread of excuses for why he never entered the draft until 2010 is that the year after which he entered the draft he had the benefit of an extra season of experience to exploit young defensive players.
Do these things show smarts or elevated character? Not necessarily. But he has done a good job marketing himself and I assure you that he is conscious of it.
Heisman trophy winner and would-be family-values crusader Tim Tebow will only be able to add his sanctimonious voice to the abortion debate and other causes he has no business getting involved in for about a season or maybe a season and a half as an NFL player for whatever team is gullible enough to take him in the 2010 NFL entry draft.
He might not even go in the top fifteen and likely then to a club without a pressing need at his position.
Going by the Bill Walsh (Former San Francisco 49ers coach) rule of the thumb that it takes roughly a a season and a half or 24 games in the NFL to judge whether a quarterback has "it" i.e. that which is needed to succeed in the league then Tebow will be out of the NFL part through 2011 if not before.
Take a very good look at Tebow's stats in the NCAA and then judge them against the strengths or weaknesses of the schedules he faced and tell me that this guys status (Ranked 4th best quarterback in an NFL draft class of 137) is warranted or if he just found a way to hype himself up with his weird religious ideas and play the media game cleverly.
I don't think that Tebow did play the media game cleverly. I don't think that Tebow is capable of playing any game cleverly if you go by his flakey religious beliefs. This ignorant young behemoth is not capable of the kind of intellect necessary to be successful in the NFL.
His weaknesses as a passer, reader of defenses and potential threat to run with ball are so far behind what is expected of an NFL signal caller that he can't hope to bridge the gap. He'll be calling out for his mommy after the first time he sees a decent NFL pass rush which will make him wish he had been aborted.
All of this indicates the kind of hype that preceded Rick Mirer and Heath Schuler and look at how those two turned out for any NFL dumb enough to draft them and dumb enough to sign them.
The real nightmare is what happens then. Whether he is any good or not won't matter when he starts his ministry to milk wealthy parishioners or, heaven forbid, runs for office as one of those Republican values idiots using his notoriety from his brief time as a football hero to try to get some kind of an angle to use with voters.
When that happens it will be those reasonable voters among us that will wish he had been aborted too.
