The Olympians were the supreme gods next to the Titans. They were called the Olympians because they lived in Olympus. There were twelve Olympians that made up the divine family.
Zeus
He was the youngest son of Cronus and Rhea. He was the supreme ruler of mount Olympus. He advocated laws, justice and morals and gods and men considered him as the spiritual leader.
He was the lord of the sky, god of rain and the gatherer of clouds who manipulated the terrible thunderbolt. He was the most powerful among all the gods. He had fallen in love with one woman after another and hides his disloyalty from his wife.
Hera
She was the daughter of Cronus and Rhea; wife and sister of Zeus. She was the queen of all goddesses and the protector of marriage. Hera was always filled with hatred, envy and was in constant rage due to Zeus's unfaithfulness. She was punishing many women that her husband fell in love with.
Poseidon
He was the brother of Zeus and god of the sea, earthquakes and horses. He was considered as the one responsible for shipwrecks and drowning. He was considered to be a moody and greedy god. He owned a trident, a powerful weapon that can make the earth shake. The granddaughter of the Titan, Ocean named Amphitrite was his wife.
Hades
He was the brother of Zeus; ruler of the dead and the underworld. He was also the god of wealth. He visits the Olympus and the earth not often because he was not welcome. His wife was Persephone whom he captured from earth and made her the Queen of the underworld.
Athena
She was the daughter of Zeus and no mother bore her because she leaped from his head. She was the goddess of the city and protector of civilized life and who first disciplined the horses allowing men to use them. She was the favorite daughter of Zeus and trusted her to bring his thunderbolt and aegis.
Apollo
He was the son of Zeus and Leto. He was called the most Greek of all the gods. He was the master musician who delighted Olympus as he was playing his golden lyre. He was the healer god who taught men the art of healing. He was also the god of light and truth.
Artemis
She was the one of the three maiden goddesses of Olympus. She was the daughter of Zeus and Leto; the twin sister of Apollo. She was the lady of wild things; to gods, she was the Huntsman in chief and for a woman, she was an odd officer. She was the protector of youth but in inconsistency, she kept the Greek fleet from sailing to Troy unless they will give up a maiden to her.
