The legendary appeal of Celtic jewelry

Created on: March 04, 2010

The legacy of the Celts spans beyond the four corners of the world.  However, it is the richly detailed, Celtic symbols, which have made their mark, upon the walls of history.  Each notorious sign or symbols, is said to breathe the air of meaning, into the Celtic belief system, and their notable warrior way of life.  Their legendary jewelry, on the other hand recites poetic history lessons, to the archaeologist inside us all.  Moreover though, is the fact that after many centuries, Celtic jewelry engulfed in symbolism, has certainly found its way into the heart and soul, of Celtic descendants far and wide.

The Celtic heritage and time-honored traditions, most commonly seen in graveyards, spanned across Ireland, Scotland, and England.  Today, that heritage has surpassed the boundaries of a cemetery, and now shown in finely detailed, handcrafted jewelry.  Therefore, now best celebrated by ordinary people, wearing their legendary markings for better hopes of strength, love and incredible power.

Each specific design bears meaning.  Take the Celtic Trinity Knot for instance, otherwise known as the Triquetra.  It is a symbol dating back to the fifth century.  Its meanings vary depending of the nature of the circumstances.  However, it is the one true symbol that embraces the father, the son, and the holy spirit interlocked together. The Triple Spiral, represents the three powers of the maiden, mother and crone.  The Celtic cross, was first established by one of the Patron Saints of Ireland, Patrick.  Saint Patrick, combined the Pagan sun cross, with an alter cross to welcome in Pagan worshipers and convert them to Catholicism.  It was also a way to satisfied the social masses funding his missionary, while pleasing the many thousand, Pagan converts.  Saint Patrick wrote that this new cross, was to represent the bridge between heaven and earth. The ringed found among the cross, signifies infinity and eternal spiritual love.  Celtic knots have long been and Irish symbol, dating back to the influential wealth of trespassing Romans.  It can easily be said, that many jewelers, gathered mythical inspiration originates from The Books of Kells.  Although, is it not clear whether or not, if the Celtic Knot really had any meaning to their symbolism.  However, it is a modern day ideology that they contain spiritual representation.

Some of the best-loved pieces, of Celtic jewelry are reflected in their world famous, renowned engagement and wedding ring designs.  From the Claddagh ring style with its crown and heart, to the delicate features of the Celtic Warrior metalwork design with its shield and Celtic knots, each design shows the remarkably good taste, flowing from the buyer.
