The Power of Prayer
Haven't you ever wondered why as Christians, we still have to pray? I mean if we serve a God who knows everything, doesn’t he know what we need before we ask him? In fact the bible says "Your heavenly father knoweth what you need before you ask him" so, it seems, one would wonder about the necessity of prayer. But as with every saying of the bible, nothing is as it seems, the truth lies beneath. Prayer is the Christian's way of communicating with God, not essentially because we want to ask him to do something for us, but primarily because we have a relationship with him. It would be impractical for a person who does not know God personally to pray. In fact the bible says, "The prayer of the wicked is an abomination unto God" This brings me to the first and primary reason why we should pray. We should pray because that is the primary mode of communicating with God. Prayer is a result of the overwhelming outflow of a deep seated relationship with God. We should pray because we realize that God is our father, and just like we talk to our natural father in the flesh because he is our father, we talk to God, our spiritual father, not mainly because we need something but because in prayer we experience his presence and essence.
Essentially, it takes at least two people to have a conversation. When we are praying to God, we are in conversation with him, and as far as I know, prayer is the only medium that affords us that possibility. God speaks to us in the place of prayer. If your prayer has been a one-way affair, then you might need to examine how you have been going about it. I am not here saying that God is limited only to speaking to us in the place of prayer, we all know God speaks to us in different ways. But, the point here is that it is mostly in the place of prayer do we experience the essence, and confidence only known to a blessed relationship with God. The atmosphere of a Christian praying is not anything in the order of the natural. It is completely spiritual. It is in these realms that Satan is completely confounded. Satan is not confounded by the word of God, he knows the word of God; He is neither confounded by an atmosphere of praise, he was an archangel; though these channels of worship are unpleasant to him, he could still thrive within them: the only place he cannot thrive at all is in the atmosphere of prayer! The power we experience in the place of prayer cannot be overemphasized. It is
