HOW TO PLAY CHEAT

Cheat is a great card game, full of deceit, dishonesty and lies. The purpose of the game is to get rid of your cards first and how do you do that? By cheating of course!

WHAT YOU NEED TO PLAY CHEAT

To play cheat you will need a regular deck of cards with the jokers removed and a good group of people. The game can be played with two, but three to six often make for the best games.

DEALING THE CARDS

The dealer will deal out all the cards, making one hand for each player and an extra hand off to the side. No one is allowed to look at this extra hand and it must stay, face down, out of play for the entire game.

A variation that can be played with younger children or beginners to the game is to NOT have the extra hand. This makes it easier to know if someone is cheating but is not nearly as much fun for that same reason. In my opinion it can be too easy to catch someone cheating and can sometimes be frustrating when you have no other option but to cheat and always find yourself getting caught, not because you have a bad ‘poker face’ but because the other players have all the cards and know exactly what’s in your hand.

GAME PLAY

First, you will have to decide with your fellow players what sequence you wish to play with. The sequence is what dictates the order of the cards placed on the middle pile. There are several different versions of the sequence, ranging for basic to complex but all fun, which I have outlined below.

One version uses the basic sequence of Ace to King than back to Ace. If the player before you plays Aces, than you must play Twos, the player after you must play Threes and so and so on.

Another version is similar to above because you are still using the Ace to King sequence, but there is a little more wiggle room. Instead of having to play the direct next card in the sequence you have the option to play the next card up from that. For example, if the player before me were to play Sevens, I could either play Eights or Nines. This version is nice because it can be a lot harder to figure out if someone is cheating, with each player having more options to play.

The last version is quite a bit different. Rather than just having the sequence travel in one direction, it can travel up, down or you could repeat the last value played. For example, if Sevens were played the turn before me, I now have the option of playing either Sixes, Sevens OR Eights. This final version can get a little confusing but can be really fun
