The common traits of successful leaders

Analytic thinking is a strength and common trait that successful leaders possess. It is the basis of what management is all about. They have the innate ability to look at problems from several different angles. It is the realization that there is more than one answer for a problem. Successful leaders are curious and want to understand why different individuals look differently at similar situations. Successful leaders will focus on crucial issues and make sure that hey have gathered all the information that they need.

There are certain traits that successful leaders all have in common and make them stand out from the leaders in any organization. A high priority trait for any manager is their ability to accept responsibility and be accountable for their own performance. They understand that their integrity as a leader in any organization reflects their ability to demonstrate that they are accountable and take responsibility for all of their actions and any decisions they make.

Successful leaders maintain fair treatment for all employees. If someone is giving them feedback that they are perceived to be showing favoritism to a certain individual or individuals, they will stop and examine their own recent behavior. Any leader can have favorites, it is important that you learn how not to openly display that behavior. Every employee wants their leader to show that they appreciate their efforts and contributions, not just a handful of the employees. A good piece of advice for any leader is to never take sides when there is a disagreement between employees, a wise leader will instead act as a facilitator to have an open forum for discussion.

Conflict is an always present denominator in the workplace. Employees will closely watch how leaders work through conflict situations and develop creative resolutions. Successful leaders acknowledge that they cannot avoid conflict or run from it. If leaders avoid conflict, their recognize their value as a leader will be diminished and they will lose the respect of their colleagues and peers. Leaders will seek out help when they need it with conflict resolution. Successful leaders feel that it is their responsibility to seek out advice from valued colleagues and utilize resources that are available for to them. They do not expect anyone to hold their hand.
