Working part-time can definitely have a positive influence on your life. Think about it - you would have more time to spend however you wanted, less stress from being over-worked, and not have too much responsibility. But wait - wouldn't that also mean less pay? It doesn't have to. There are many part-time jobs that pay well over the minimum wage standard.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHER - Every state in the United Stated structures their Substitute Teaching Certification process differently. For example, in Ohio, where I live, one can be a Substitute Teacher is he/she has a Bachelors degree (in anything). After that, it is a matter of contacting your local educational services center to fill out paperwork, get an FBI background check, and get a Tuberculosis check. A Substitute Teacher here in Ohio can work as much as they want; it is up to the Sub. to accept or deny a job to teach for any given day and is usually done over the computer. A Sub. can expect to make anywhere from $70-100 a day. Lesson plans are usually ready for you when you get there and once you get the swing of things, it is really an easy gig.
PART-TIME OR CONTINGENT NURSE - If you have a Nursing degree but do not want or need the 40-hour work week, there are usually options to go part-time or on a contingent basis. Contingent means that they will call you in when needed or you may act as a substitute when someone is out sick. You will still get the same pay that other nurses get, hourly, but you will have way more time once you decide how often you need to work.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - A lot of companies need an administrative assistant to help with paperwork, filing, and bookkeeping. But, they may not need someone there all week. You can sign up through a temp agency or look in the want ads - this is a popular position to find work in. You can expect to make, on average, about $9-16 an hour, depending on skill level and the company.
PROFESSOR AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE - Sometimes, community colleges need specialized professionals or those with experience to teach certain classes. Usually, if you have at least a Bachelors degree or experience you can teach a class. For example, if you are an experienced and successful Real Estate Broker, youo may be able to teach night classes to Real Estate students.
