Singapore is well known globally for its rich history, ethnic diversity and unity and rich culture. There are many places of interest within Singapore that showcase their proud past, forefathers, and show the world how much Singapore has changed over the decades. Here we would look at some of the many museums that are found in Singapore.

*National Museum of Singapore

This museum is reputed to be the oldest and yet the most creative one in Singapore. This National Museum is the home to 11 National Treasures and uses cutting edge and innovative means to present the rich history and culture that defines Singapore. It has literally defined a new museum experience for their visitors. Along with showcasing precious exhibits, the National Museum also holds many festivals, cultural events and film screening.

*Asian Civilisations Museum

Situated in the Grand Empress Place Building, this Museum houses more than 1500 artifacts. These artifacts tell the tale behind the cultural background of Singaporeans and their ancestors. Their virtual guides and unique use of multimedia allows one to understand the roots of all Singaporeans by focusing on South Asia, Southeast Asia, China and the Islamic world of West Asia. The Asian culture is said to live in this Asian Civilisations Museum

*Singapore Art Museum

The Singapore Art Museum is the proud owner of the largest collection of 20th Century Singapore and Southeast Asian art pieces. This museum, situated within a restored mission school from the 19th century, holds over 7500 beautiful artworks, including those by pioneer artiest from Singapore like Liu Kan and Georgette Chen. They also hold works by many Southeast Asian experts and modern and contemporary art.

*Peranakan Museum

The Peranakan Museum displayed the rich Peranakan culture from the former Straits Settlements of Singapore, Malacca and Penang. This recently refurbished museum features displays in 10 galleries and has interesting interactive displays that entertains and educates children. Visitors could enjoy delicious Peranakan cuisine at the restaurant situated near the museum and enjoy special exhibitions featured through the year.

These are just a few of the wonderful spots in Singapore that display the rich history of Singapore and their people. These places of interest not only entertain tourists and locals but also educate the Singaporean people about who they are and what their roots are. One would know from Singapore’s history that this story was built together by traders and travelers from many parts of the world like Malaya, India, China and Europe. These museums would display how they came into this island, unified together and transformed this little island to the wonderful and well developed nation that it is today.
