Poetry: Addiction to prescription drugs

Hooked

Where once I feared trying drugs or alcohol,
Turned out so simple to become addicted;
Sensations take over, leading to one's downfall,
Must exercise discipline to keep usage restricted.

Next on my list of easy pitfalls is self-pity,
Woe is me, why am I so lonely and sad;
Not simple to shrug off with something witty,
A friend can jolt you out of it, make you mad...

The most insidious can be to be in love with
Being in love, falling for one and then another
Person, giving you that swoon and internal lift;
An antidote is to believe in your self worth, no other...

You are all you need, and anyone else is icing on the cake.
You are worth defending your rights and boundaries for;
Some introspection and faith are all it really takes,
Striking out and engaging life, Believing you deserve more

Than to chain your destiny to any one human or chemical.
In my humble opinion, the best things in life are natural!
