The hilarious and off-the-wall television show, Spongebob Squarepants, although it is generally portrayed as a show geared for young audiences, features a fresh brand of comedy that can be enjoyed thoroughly by viewers of all ages. One of the primary reasons that it is such a hit is from its diverse, intriguing, and creative characters. Each character is truly unique and adds a new dimension to the show.

Spongebob Squarepants, obviously, is the main character in Spongebob. If you are unfamiliar with Spongebob, it is set underwater. Spongebob lives in a house made out of a pineapple in Bikini Bottom. Spongebob is employed at Krusty Krab, a fast food restaurant that serves the famous Krabby Patties. Spongebob is the fry cook, and is well known under the sea for his high-pitched laugh, his square pants, his buck teeth, and his yellow, spongy skin.

Patrick Star is Spongebob's neighbor. He is known in Bikini Bottom for being somewhat mentally challenged, as he isn't the brightest bulb under the sea. He lives two houses away from Spongebob, his house being a rock that he lives under. He isn't employed, any usually spends most of his time playing games with Spongebob, or doing absolutely nothing. He can be described as a pink starfish with colorful shorts.

Squidward Tenticles is Spongebob's other neighbor. He enjoys the "finer things" such as playing his clarinet, painting self portraits, and dancing ballet. He works with Spongebob at the Krusty Krab as the cashier. He is well known in Bikini Bottom for his dreary attitude and his ability to easily get annoyed by his neighbors Spongebob and Patrick.

Sandy Cheeks is another interesting character. She is a squirrel that lives underwater, so the only way that she can live is in her air suit, which resembles a fish bowl. It provides her with air and keeps the water outside her suit. She lives in a tree dome which is an area filled with air, grass, and a large tree. She is employed as a scientist.

Mr. Krabs is Spongebob and Squidward's boss. He is well known for his ability to be cheap, and it seems like his primary goal in life is to become rich. He make sure that he saves all of his money, and will stop at nothing to obtain cash. He can be described as a large red crab with large, protruding eyes.

Overall, the characters in Spongebob are all interesting and unique. Although there are more characters than the ones mentioned above, the main characters are Spongebob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and Mr. Krabs. Spongebob is such a hit, mainly because of its wide range of intriguing creatures. Each character adds spice to the television show and keeps viewers glued to the television screen
